SLIDELUCK POTSHOW

Seeking Submissions for Ann Arbor's First Slideluck Potshow

November 1, 2007 – 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. – The Michigan Theater

SUBMISSION DEADLINE OCTOBER 27

What's a Slideluck Potshow?

A Slideluck Potshow brings people together to share food and art. After beginning in Seattle just seven years ago, Slideluck Potshows have become an international phenomenon, created many times over in New York City, Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, London, San Francisco, L.A., and other cool cities.

Artists and art-lovers and anyone else who's interested come together in a central location (in our case, the Michigan Theater, 603 E. Liberty in Ann Arbor), bringing food to share (you bring the pre-packaged desserts, we'll provide dinner), and ready to view the visual artwork, in slideshow format, of area artists.

Past shows have included artwork from Elliot Erwitt , Alex Majoli of Magnum Photos, Lucian Read, Martin Schoeller, Andre Lambertson, and loads of lesser-known up and comers. Be one of the artists whose work is featured in the first Ann Arbor show. If it's as cool here as we think it's going to be, we'll make it an annual event.

How can I be part of it?

First of all, buy the dessert.

No. First of all, Look at your body of work and view it through one of these lenses: Art & Evolution, Art & the Brain, Art & Conscience, or Art & Health (see www.artsonearth.org/events) for more thoughts on these topics). You can use some other lens as well, though – we're looking mainly for quality). Select (or create) images that work for you as a story or "think" piece on one of these themes, and put them together in a finished, sequenced work that becomes your "slideshow." Feel free – in fact, feel required! – to combine your visual images with music, spoken word, interviews, or other audio performance. Follow this link to technical info on creating and submitting your work.

Do I have to have any special qualifications to submit work?

Yes. You have to be a person living in the Ann Arbor or Southeast Michigan area (rather than, say, France) and know how to put together the kind of show described above.

What if I'm not an artist, or don't have any work right now, or don't have time to submit?

Come anyway! Every artist needs an audience. Bring your friends and your pre-packaged desserts to view the visual artwork created by friends, neighbors, and faculty.

Sponsored by Arts on Earth and Arts at Michigan.
