Submission Information for Slideluck Potshow Michigan

Submission Deadline October 27!

Please keep in mind that presentations can be no longer than five minutes, but most are much shorter. We find that, with the time limit in mind, somewhere between 15 and 40 images seem to work out well. We are asking for each submission to have a minimum of 10 images and a maximum of 40, and to include an audio component – music, spoken word, interviews, or other audio performance – whatever works best.

We accept work in digital format only. We encourage all types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art. However, they must be still images: no film or video will be considered.

Again: We want to see good work, but it need not be safe. Feel free to show us something you are not quite sure about, something you made on a whim, or the out-takes from a job you've never had a chance to air. But if that makes you uneasy, show us your absolutely finest work, because we like that too.

We accept work in digital format only, and all images should be in JPEG format, in an RGB colorspace. An sRGB color profile is best. The slides will be presented in a window with the dimensions of 1024w pixels by 768h pixels. This means the width of your images should not exceed 1024 pixels and the height should not exceed 768 pixels. This basically translates to 10.24" x 7.68" @ 100 dpi (resolution). You are welcome to make them smaller, but that may create a border around the images.

If you are having trouble thinking of a song or audio piece, please get in touch with Emma before the submission deadline, and we may be able to help. Place music in MP3 format only along with your images in your folder on our server. Note that music purchased from the iTunes music store is unusable.

Name your files with your initials followed by a 2-digit Serial Number. For example, CK01.jpg, CK02.jpg, CK03.jpg. The serial number signifying the order in which you want the slides presented.

Please also make:

  1. Title slide (jpeg) with your name (and the title of the project if applicable) for the beginning of your slideshow. This should be labeled with your initials followed by 00 (CK00). The Name slide must be the first slide in your show. (To make the title slide, open photoshop->file->new->select background color, and use the text tool. Or, place text on a photo itself).
  2. End slide (jpeg) with your contact info, labeled with your initials followed by the last two serial numbers in your project. We ask that you also include a music credit page if applicable, and label it to tell where you want it placed (preferably next to last). Remember that these should also be legible when scaled down for the website.

DELIVERY OF SUBMISSION:

We prefer that you upload the images to our server using an FTP program. If you have any questions regarding how to FTP, first download the free program RBrowserLite for Macs or Core FTP for PCs. (Google "RbrowserLite" for Macs or "Core FTP" for PCs.) Then, simply open the program, enter the FTP information e-mailed to you (contact Emma for FTP info: slideshowmichigan@umich.edu) into the proper fields, and log-in. Then, simply drag and drop the FOLDER titled with your full name as you would like it to appear in all contexts into the SUBMISSIONS folder on the server.

Please wait until your FTP program has finished completely, and then email slideshowmichigan@umich.edu (with the questionnaire below) to let us know your submission has been successfully uploaded.
